READISC
Brake Disc Measuring Tool
Safety and effectiveness in preventing accidents
Readisc has been developed to solve an existing problem in the industry. This brake discs measuring tool has been developed following to the highest quality standards, keeping in mind what industries need and people behind them.
Readisc has been created following four main ideas:
-
Security, Laser measuring system is encapsulated, so, users don't need special safety glasses.
-
Ergonomics, Readisc can be used with only one hand.
-
Productivity, Users don't need any special training. With only pushing a button you get a measurement.
-
Savings, reducing expenses through optimizing the use of the brake discs.

Operativity
It has a magnet fastening system that holds it attached to the brake disc while measuring. Works through a laser of one millimeter of thickness. This laser walks linearly through the surface, doing the measuring of the roughness of the surface with a micrometric precision. Data are collected by a microprocessor through a software created for this purpose, which coordinates motor movement and get the information. Once stored, this microprocessor is responsible for transmission to an external device (tablet or smartphone). This external device is the control interface of the Meter, which has software that displays a user interface designed with buttons to launch the measurement system and get a clear and simple data, allowing the user view the results of the measurement immediately.

Is the measurement performed with the brake disc placed or out of the vehicle?
The measurement is done with the disk placed on the vehicle . This system count with magnets that allow the correct placement in the brake discs.
Which is the measurement reference?
The wear of the brake pads regularly don't get at the ends of the disc. This means that we have an inner and outer ring that has no wear. This is our reference point at which wear measures are taken.
What if the disc has more worn areas than others?
Due to the operation of the braking system of vehicles, we consider the disc wear will be the same at all points that are equidistant from the center, ie, each concentric circle have the same wear regardless of where they measure . That is why Readisc must be placed radially.
If you want to measure a particular point on the disc, you would have to put Readisc so that the measurement of radius passes over the point of interest although, as we have said before, as a rule all points equidistant from the center have the same wear.
What is the maximum diameter of the disc that can be measured?
In this case the diameter of the disc that can be measured is 160mm, which is ideal for trains.
What is the maximum thickness of the disk that can be measured?
This device measures the wear of the surface, not the material thickness. The maximum wear Readisc could measure is 9 mm
Where is the data exported?
Data is stored in a text file and stored in the memory card of your smartphone / tablet. This data can be easily downloaded to any PC.
What data is exported? Is it configurable?
In addition to the measurements made, the data exported are: operator name, vehicle name and a reference of the disc measured. These cannot be set up in a different way at the moment. Feedback from customers will help to improve our software, allowing us to update it.
